What are dermal fillers?
If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and wished you could turn back the clock, you may want to consider booking yourself in for a dermal fillers treatment. Dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally-occurring substance in the skin. Over time, our natural supply of hyaluronic acid reduces, making our skin look less supple and more prone to fine lines and wrinkles.
Dr Nicole uses Juvederm and Teosyal filler products, which are leading brands of injectable gels that are made up of hyaluronic acid. They are specifically designed to plump up skin and lips. Dr Nicole believes in providing natural looking results and lip enhancements, so you can look the very best version of you without looking fake!
Your initial consultation
Before your treatment, you’ll meet with Dr Nicole for your initial consultation. For dermal fillers, we usually recommend a consultation initially, and then have the treatment at another visit (so you have time to think about the information given and prepare yourself for the procedure).
During the initial consultation, Dr Nicole will chat with you about what you would like to achieve from the treatment, as well as talk you through the procedure. It’s also a great opportunity to get answers to any other questions you may have.
Dr Nicole will take this opportunity to have a look at your skin and facial features. Everyone’s face is different, so a personalised treatment plan will help to achieve the best results.
The procedure
Before starting the treatment, Dr Nicole will apply a specialist numbing cream to the area/s, and then wait for a few minutes whilst it takes effect. You may feel a tingling sensation during this time but don’t worry, this is perfectly normal and just means that the numbing cream is working.
Once the cream has taken effect, Dr Nicole will ask you to relax your face as much as you can, and will start the procedure. During the treatment, Dr Nicole will use the Steriglide™ Aesthetic Microcannula in certain areas, this will help minimise any discomfort or bruising. The treatment will take around 30 minutes.
Are there any side effects to dermal fillers?
Just like any procedure, there are potential side effects, but not everyone will experience them. You will most likely experience a small amount of redness and swelling immediately after the treatment, but this usually subsides anytime between a couple of hours and a couple of days.
There may be some bruising, especially if you have had a lip enhancement, but this tends fade after a few days. If you tend to bruise easily, the chances of bruising during your dermal filler treatment is increased, but this is nothing to worry about. In fact, many of our clients go straight back to work after their treatment the following day.
Any temporary discomfort that you feel after the procedure can usually be treated with over-the-counter painkillers.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Dermal fillers usually last from six to 18 months, depending on the type of filler and the individual.
Once your treatment is complete, Dr Nicole will provide you with a comprehensive aftercare programme. If you have any further questions regarding your dermal fillers after your appointment, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
